Ethical Review Board

The Ethical Review Board of HOPE reviews research proposals submitted for Ethical review. The ERB deals with clinical and epidemiological research and is recognized by the United State Department of Health and Human Services Office for Human Research Protection (OHRP) with the FWA No. 00010258 and IRB No. 00002208.

The board comprises of doctors, social scientists and journalists. The research proposals submitted for ethical approval are thoroughly reviewed following the recommendations of the World Health Assembly and the Belmont Declaration. Research participants in developing countries like Pakistan are more vulnerable to exploitation than those living in the more developed countries. This is due to lack of access to health care, difficulties in implementing international guidelines in local circumstances, and consent procedures where cultural norms may conflict with those in developed countries. Hence, every effort is made to avoid exploitation of human subjects. The ERB Board comprises of the following.
